Closing the gap in cancer outcomes in Greater Houston

The NBLIC-II Houston Coalition works to reduce cancer health disparities through community and organizational collaboration—advancing cancer awareness, risk reduction, and research engagement among African Americans in the Greater Houston Area. 

What We Do

Our coalition framework brings together churches, health institutions, universities, and community leaders to promote cancer awareness and prevention to address the cancer burden affecting our communities.

Cancer Awareness

We provide community-centered education to strengthen knowledge and encourage early detection.

Cancer Risk Reduction

We share practical prevention strategies to support healthier lifestyles and reduce risk factors.

Cancer Research & Clinical Trials

We promote research awareness and engagement, including education about clinical trials and opportunities to participate.

We host workshops, health fairs, and virtual events to share prevention, nutrition, and screening guidance that resonates culturally.

VOICES of Black Women

We support the American Cancer Society’s VOICES of Black Women project, a national study to understand risk, prevention, and survivorship among Black women. Eligible participants (ages 25–55, U.S. residents, no prior cancer except certain skin cancers) can enroll online. Our community referral code is 2108.
